Public Beta Release of SVOFFICE™5: SVFLUX™GE - Saturated / Unsaturated Groundwater Seepage Modeling Software

This new beta software release introduces an improved 3D CAD graphics subsystem and user interface that significantly speeds up workflow and makes it even easier to use.

The SVFLUX™GE beta is the first package released from the new upcoming SVOFFICE™5/GE suite of geotechnical and geoenvironmental software products. Feedback from the growing customer base has resulted in hundreds of small improvements and a number of notable large improvements. The SVFLUX™GE software still supports the features which made it popular such as:
  i) an easy-to-use user interface
ii) automatic mesh generation and refinement
iii) stable unsaturated soils seepage modeling
  iv) 1D/2D/3D analysis
  v) a comprehensive climatic user interface and rigorous coupling with slope stability, contaminant transport, thermal and air-flow packages.

The premier groundwater seepage package on the market has continued to evolve and strengthen based on close interaction with our customers. We would welcome and encourage you to review our work with the beta version.

Applications to beta-test the software may be found here!

SoilVision International Short Course Series 2015

Murray D. Fredlund, Ph.D., PEng, President/CEO, SoilVision Systems Ltd. will be presenting a pre-Congress short course (PC03 on the conference registration) on November 15th, 2015 in Buenos Aires, Argentina at the 15th Pan-American Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering.

This course will present advanced topics related to both 2D and 3D slope stability analysis areas. The focus will be on aspects of a correct numerical analysis of slopes by the limit equilibrium methodology. The management of complex 3D spatial data will be discussed as well as modeling methodologies related to 3D numerical modeling. The focus will be on advanced concepts of slope stability analysis and their application. Applications of 3D solutions to real-world problems will be covered.

The course will also cover advances in the area of slope stability analysis in applying unsaturated principles to slope stability models. A combination of classic limit equilibrium as well as more advances stress-based numerical models will be covered in terms of their applicability to practical problems.

The benefits associated with performing 3D slope stability analyses were introduced in the 1970s. Over the years a number of 3D methods of analysis have been researched. These methods have ranged from the method of columns to approaches based on variational calculus, and more recently, the use of dynamic programming. Interest in 3D slope stability analysis appears to be driven by the fact that most slope stability failures are inherently three-dimensional in character. That is, the failure surface most often represents a variation on a dish-shaped surface. Two-dimensional representations are a significant simplification of the actual situation. It is somewhat surprising that geotechnical engineers have been as successful as they have been in using two-dimensional simplifications of three-dimensional geometries for slope stability studies.

Industry has largely embraced a two-dimensional approach with respect to slope stability analysis as an accepted method of practice and acceptable design factors of safety generally range between 1.3 and 1.5. The calibration to well-instrumented failures has typically involved performing 2D back-analyzing of failed slopes and accepting the results as a "reasonable calibration", even though the slope failed in a 3D manner.

University Undergraduate Project Software

SoilVision Systems Ltd. is pleased to announce a new offer of collaborations with Universities for the purpose of undergraduate research projects. This collaboration is perfect for 4th year design projects and will allow the students to become familiar with our software. The projects will be related to numerical modeling in the geotechnical / hydrogeological area.

This offer will include 6-month licenses of agreed-upon software at no cost. We will provide technical support to related normal use of the software. Complimentary training videos on how to use the software are provided online. This is a great opportunity for Universities to gain access to leading edge 2D/3D geotechnical software to support analysis in 4th Year Projects.

We have posted the Collaboration Agreement online for download.

I used SVSolid as a part of my final year civil engineering project to analyse 2D and 3D models of shallow footings. With the help of the SoilVision software, I was able to understand the effects of varying the friction angle on the ultimate bearing capacity, and how this interacts with the effects of matric suction. The software was easy to work with and fast to run, with a wide variety of capabilities. I would definitely recommend using SVSolid and other SoilVision software to anyone considering a project or thesis."
