Regional Groundwater Modeling
Much fresh water obtained for municipal use comes from pumping groundwater. As wells are installed and regional groundwater resources are pumped there are zones of depression which are created in the groundwater table. Relevant questions include:
- How much pumping can be performed without depleting the resource?
- After pumping how long will it take the groundwater table to return to steady-state conditions?
Large regional watersheds may be modeled using the SVFLUX™ groundwater software package. The 1D climate coupling in SVFLUX is also ideal for the calculation of recharge / percolation rates for regional resources. The advanced tetrahedral elements in SVFLUX are ideal for the pinching out of geological strata.
